Photo Journey: Gingerbread

You'll see many examples of the ornately decorated
Victorian trim known as Gingerbread. Relatively recently,
Victorian home owners began to bring out the detailed
features on the trim by painting in bright and contrasting
colors. This probably originated in the 1960's
(Haight-Ashbury times), when hippies painted their "pads"
crazy colors to shock their elders. The Victorian color scheme
from WW2 to the late 1960's was white or battleship gray
with black or white trim around the windows.
